Windows Vista Service Pack 1 RTM Screenshots

While I'd love to be able to publish a formal screenshot gallery on the SuperSite today, Penton's Web wizards have once again screwed me over. In the interests of getting this out as quickly as possible, you can view the shots now on Flickr. I'll be posting a normal screenshot gallery on this site as soon as I can.

You wouldn't believe what I deal with sometimes. You really wouldn't.

Update: I was able to email the update to someone at Penton and get the main site update. My faith in humanity is thus restored. The SuperSite version of the screenshot gallery can be found here.

BTW, I've only installed the RTM bits on one machine so far, an HP Tablet PC that I recently purchased. That's because most of my other Vista machines have various pre-release versions of SP1 installed, and you have to uninstall that first, which is time consuming. (Honestly, I'm not looking forward to this process.) On the flipside, I'm traveling to Denver with the HP today, so I'll have some real world experience with SP1 and see whether it makes much of a difference over the RTM version. Should be interesting.

Based on the myriad of problems I've personally experienced on WinInfo, I can believe what you deal with.

Want to hear an interesting fact? MS is not releasing the SP1 on this Tuesday, but they will have a massive adoption by the time of official availability. I found a few places where the final SP1 can be downloaded, and after a few hour the number of people getting it is in the high thousands. If the rate stays the same, there will be 100.000 SP1 installs by the end of this week. If there are no real problems reported, and the word gets out, at least 5-10% of the install base will be updated before MS puts out the bits.

Great way to save on bandwidth and distribution costs!

I will get back with y results after I install my copy.

My understanding is the full Web download will be made available on 2/18.

Got it, installed it, everything looks good.

Paul: everywhere on the web I see mid-March release dates. It would be nice if the Feb. 18th date were true. People really want this (apparently, as they are already downloading it like hell), and they should get it. I do want to use Vista on all my machines, but I doubt that the battery issue with my Acer Travelmate has been resolved (it wasn't in RC).

Vista is beginning to look good, at least on the business side (I do not know about gaming). I hope MS will accelerate/continue  these improvements. I am curious to see the Windows Server 2008-Vista integration.

The uninstall is a "Walk away from the computer" type activity.

I just love it, took about 45 minutes so if you make sure it logs you off you can actuall leave and come back.  Just plan your lunches.  :)

But seriously I had that "Will this computer ever be functional again feeling"  before I went for the uninstall but hey it worked well I am functional now. (computer wise)

Can MSDN / Parterns download now?

We know you use Picasa Web Albums, so what's wrong with them that you used Flickr for this?

Maybe that could be part of your ongoing

Digital Media Core series.
