Also the release of Mario Kart Wii will push a lot more Wii systems.  Perhaps Wii Fit too.

Why are people still buying the PS2?  Sliding or not, Sony is making coin off of three systems.

What?  No mention that the PSP is outselling it's larger counterparts from both the current, and previous generation?

I wonder what the previous sales were like without the surge from the new God of War game....

Mainly because the PS2 has a much larger (and cheaper) game library than the PS3, and new PS3's no longer have backward compatibility with it anymore.  The PS3 80GB software PS2 emulation is weak at best, and the 40GB lacks it altogether, while Sony has said publicly not to expect any future backwards compatibility at all.  This is to reduce the cost (read: Sony's losses) to produce the PS3.  The 80GB has been pulled from the Sony Canada website, and many retailers are not offering backorders on it.

Oh, and the 'Wii is a fad' phrase should never be uttered again.

As for the Wii, I'm going to have to disagree with the consensus and call it as I see it: Unless you have very young kids with no video game experience at all, skip out on this console. The Wii is a joke, a novelty console that doesn't offer much staying power. Either the 360 or PS3 would be a better choice for almost anyone.

Try GTA will be one of the best selling games of all time.  I am not particularly interested in it, but from what I hear the title is expected to beat Halo 3's first week sales which is saying something.

Agree 100% with this statement. I am no longer a gamer [FPS fanboy] by any measure, but I tried the Wii and have adult friends that have also. We all got bored, although a few golfers were intrigued a little longer. I have one word to say...DOOM!

As some of the jedi knights would say, Hard to see the future is, always in motion. However, the Wii was a mega hit beyond what everyone expected. However, its still up in the air how long Nintendo can keep this going as Sony plans their own motion controller and so is Microsoft.

Also, Microsoft and Sony are both working on ways to make games more general audience specific. I bet we're not getting the hit titles from these guys because they are in re-vamp mode to better challenge Wii. I'm sure as they finish the analysis and change the games emphasis, Nintendo should be worried.

I bought mine because it was dirt cheap, I don't have HD so there's no point in an overpriced PS3, and the secondhand last-generation XBox* I bought at the same time is still more reliable (and much less expensive) than the new one.

Price, price, price. That and the huge installed base of PS2 games--certainly more than I can play in a lifetime--made the PS2 a no-brainer for me.

* Yes, I bought an XBox. Waethorn,  you may pick yourself up off the floor now.
