Fun with headlines: The 'this is way overdue edition'

Let's see: Less than four hours of sleep thanks to last night's Celtics championship victory. (I went to the game, woo!) Yeah, I'm out of my mind today.

Pondering Apple in a post-Jobs world
Let me ruin the mystery: It's not pretty. And, yes, Michael Spindler is available.

Why Microsoft Killing XP Is A Good Idea
I agree that a "Kill XP" petition is overdue, yes.

MobileMe: What you need to know
No offense, Macworld, but what you need to know was published a week ago. You were at WWDC, weren't you?

Apple’s stores are all about Windows
Na na na-na, na na na-na. Hey, hey, hey ... Oh, those windows.

Microsoft “super-pleased” with Zune. Do you believe it?
Nope.

Firefox 3 RELEASED: Thoughts?
Yeah, I have some thoughts. First, anyone who writes "Thoughts?" at the end of every single blog post they right is just lazy. ("Hey, here's a story I saw online. I will link to it and add no value whatsoever. Now, discuss it. On my site!") Second, anyone who writes that in a blog headline ... well. Sorry, there just aren't words for how repellent that is. And really, all caps? Geesh. It's like the laziness trifecta over there.

Want XP on your new Dell? $50, please
Frankly, you should have to pay extra to make a bad decision. Thoughts?

Preliminary autopsy results on Mozilla’s Download Day
Actually, it's just an examination if the patient is still alive, Dr. Kingsley-Hughes.

Vista's big problem: 92 percent of developers ignoring it
Yeah, because that never happened with developers targeting XP-specific features in 2002. Oh, wait. Were there any?

Microsoft Videos is your central location for viewing rich media from Microsoft
Apparently, too many of you heard about MSN Soapbox, so we decided to start a new video site no one will care about.

Origami Experience 2.0 Released
Finally, a software update for the 7 guys at Microsoft who actually use Ultra-Mobile PCs!

8 million downloads [for Firefox 3]
Come on, at least 2 million of those were just me.

So, I'm one of the 4 outside of MS that uses a UMPC full time?

I especially love when posts start with "OFFICAL".

XP is ugly, spyware prone and unstable.  It's about time Microsoft got rid of it.

"Want XP on your new Dell? $50, please" - Frankly, you should have to pay extra to make a bad decision. Thoughts?

Agreed.

Microsoft “super-pleased” with Zune. Do you believe it?

They should rename it the "Zzzz...."

"Vista's big problem: 92 percent of developers ignoring it "

This article is ridiculous.  Developers aren't ignoring Vista.  They're writing apps that work on multiple versions of Windows.  This is the only sane thing to do, which the sensationalist headline completely ignores.

"Origami Experience 2.0 Released "

You know this would have actually sold if they priced it even semi-reasonably.  The EEE PC stole this market because it's priced appropriate to its functionality.  Pricing on UMPCs is ridiculously boneheaded.

"8 million downloads [for Firefox 3] "

I think Firefox is great and won't use Internet Explorer unless you make me, but I'm willing to bet Microsoft sends WAY MORE than 8 million daily downloads of their monthly security updates.  I suppose you wouldn't really want to draw attention to this.  The whole world record thing is silly and pointless.

I think the key here is the last 2 words in that statement.  It doesn't appear to be "community-based" like Soapbox.

preview.microsoft.com/.../videoDetails.aspx

That's just funny, any way you look at it!  SNL's current writers could take lessons in satire....

I do like the idea of having a video site that has free training videos though.

Ok Paul, but to be picky (I think you kill people for english mistakes), it's WRITE not right.

Paul, you should do this weekly.  We all know there is more then enough material.

And until Vista achieves the same critical mass that XP has, software will continue to be written for both platforms.  It would be stupid not to.  And guess what, if you write software for .NET 3, you are actually targeting Vista, which just happens to also be compatible with XP.

Not another one?

Doesn't Microsoft have a directory of their own projects or they just don't care?

You're right on the money about that "thoughts" business but get used to it, lazy is the new creative. And I will resist the temptation.

OK, Mudster, not to be picky, but it's "OK" and "English" (with a capital "E").  You also forgot to use the conjunction "but" after your comma that follows the comment in parentheses.

Windows XP  was a great OS, there is no doubt. A great lineage of the NT code base but its time to finally put XP to bed. I loved XP but its time to move foward to Vista and Windows Seven.

Developers are simply waiting as later this year and into 2009, people will make the Vista transition. Last we checked, Vista notebooks and desktops are still selling and still outselling Leopard.

Sorry Apple, you've come a long way since Macworld 1997, but your still in second place. Good luck.

Vista's biggest problem? Idiots who have never used Vista and still complaining about it. Hopefully MS will start a Vista PR offensive in July or August. (Fingers Crossed.)
