Windows Mobile Apps

Microsoft EMEA tries to prove that Windows Mobile doesn't come up short against the iPhone and the iPhone Application Store but really just ends up proving that Microsoft can't do anything on the Web these days without first promoting Silverlight. Sorry, but the Windows Mobile Apps site just highlights the problem with Windows Mobile: It's lame.

Thanks Holland.

I would look, but the Vista machine with Silverlight on it is upstairs and turned off.

I'm not ready to inflict Silverlight on the Macs I use regularly (I'll probably do it after Silverlight 2 has been out for a while, at least on the MacBook (sandbox)).

Wow. One paragraph on the "lame-ness" of WinMobile, and a veritable book on MobileMe issues. The FOX-ing of the Supersite continues.

Feeling a little paranoid?

A veritable book on a product that doesn't deliver the features it advertises and a review that glosses over those gaps as though they didn't exist.

Sounds fair

A couple of paragraphs criticizing a European marketing web page because it uses the equivalent of Flash?

Seems like a non-story probably not even worth the couple of paragraphs.

What exactly do you want here?  Paul gave a fairly good review of the new iPhone, but rightly calls out the flaws in MobileMe - cloud computing should give a great experience no matter what computer you're using - that's part of the promise of cloud computing, that you can access your stuff anywhere, no matter what computer you might find yourself in front of - it's clear MobileMe can't do that very well, and it's right that people make a bigger deal out of it.

Windows Mobile on the other hand, has been covered, and covered, and covered - Microsoft need to really push allot harder, but that push won't really come until Windows Mobile 7 is released - in the meantime, all Microsoft can do is do their best with 6.1 - there isn't allot more that can be said.

Or, to balance it out...

Apple tries to prove that Mac doesn't come up short against Windows Vista but really just ends up proving that Apple can't do anything on the Web these days without first promoting QuickTime. Sorry, but the Mac site just highlights the problem with the Mac: It's lame.

Seriously, try browsing the Apple site on a browser that doesn't have QuickTime installed sometime.

Agreed. As I said earlier, if you bother to read.

I gotta put in my experience. iPhone has MIMvista support, butu it has very limited use outside Nuclera Medicine, specifically PET/CT image fusion. It's great and I own MIMvista [$20,000 license, yep twenty thousand]. However, Winmobile has had support for the most commonly used image studies including MRI, CT, plain radiographs [xrays], ultrasound, angiography, etc... for years. Winmobile has no competition for medical imaging. Also, there are so many useful medical programs in winmobile and palm [mdata comes to mind] for patient info, billing, prescriptions, lab results and many over things. Can iPhone catch up? It will be hard. But Winmobile has much more to offer we doctors than any other mobile platform. My qualification? I'm Board certified in Diagnostic imaging and Nuclear Medicine and I've been the Nuc Med Chief for many years, as well as the asst cheif of a radiology dept.

Paul, I am not sure what you mean with “come up short” and “lame” mean. I would never exchange my Windows Mobile toy for an iPhone simply because most of the apps I use are not available for the iPhone. The situation is pretty much the same as with Windows and OS X. If you want to be sure that all apps you need are available you go for Windows. According to IDC Apple has sold 1.8 million iPhones in the first quarter of 2008 and Microsoft shipped 4.5 million Windows Mobile devices during the same period. Thus I doubt that the situation will change in the near future. So what exactly does “come up short” mean? Perhaps you mean the media hype about the iPhone? Or maybe it is Microsoft’s marketing that is lame?
