Sounds great, but it should be noted that there are already installed some filters for Office when installed on Vista. I was sure I had searched a Word docx before, so I checked.

It doesn't matter.  The instant search functionality is already in Vista, as is the the extra exposure of meta information in the shell, so WinFS doesn't really matter much anymore.  WinFS technologies will still resonate in current and future versions of Windows and SQL, even if it wasn't branded as a full feature in Windows Vista by name.

BTW:  It's snowing.

I'm in Canada, and it snows less here than it does in Buffalo, which is just on the south side of the lake.

Since my cheapo laptop doesn't have a lot of horsepower, installing these search utilities/apps form MS is not going to slow anything is it?

It should improve access time to files, as well as finding the folder location of files, so it's safe to install.

BTW:  It must be a cold day in hell (it is - it's snowing for d0g's sake), cuz I just got a Pentium 2 in for service today.  Primary hard drive (Maxtor 30GB slim-height), and both CPU and PSU fans are shot.  It also has an 8GB 5.25" Bigfoot hard drive too.  On it is a pirated copy of XP Pro.  The customer wants to know how much it is to fix it.

I should tell them how much it'll cost to dispose of it....

I never said it still worked.  It was still plugged into power though.

I have another system in too:  another MDG sh*tbox with an Intel 865PERL motherboard - PSU fan shot, and mobo caps are burst.  I just LOOOOVE how they use 40-wire IDE cables and run the *center* connector to the motherboard, and the 2 ends between the DVD drive and the hard drive (limiting the HDD to ATA-33 speed).  And instead of actually learning how to properly hook up the front audio port wires to the motherboard, they just put a sticker that says "USB 2.0" over top of them.

Gotta love it.

IOW, its dead as a doorknob, but they don't want you to think that.

Obviously you don't have a clue about it.  They've already adapted the technologies and included many of them in Windows Vista as well as SQL Server 2008.  It went from a named feature to a gestated set of technologies, much like how they'll likely adapt technologies built into Midori and the research project, Singularity.

Of course, this is in stark contrast to "Pink" - the project that went nowhere.
