Windows Vista Secrets SP1 Edition on the way…

My wife and I are getting ready to ship out copies of Windows Vista Secrets SP1 Edition to the people who won the giveaways I’ve had so far here on the site, on Twitter, and via the Windows Weekly podcast. I have 30 copies on hand currently. (Well, 29. I gave one to my mom.) But I’m expecting another 30 soon, so when I get from PDC I can start giving away another 25 or so.

Here’s what 29 copies of Windows Vista Secrets SP1 Edition looks like.

All joking aside, the publishing business is a tough nut to crack.

Oops, typed the rumored codename wrong. That should be "Windows Strata Secrets"

I trust those copies are on a soundly-built part of the floor.

The thing is heavy (and good, so far as I've gotten into it).

Although Paul has it up on the main SuperSite, it's probably worth mentioning here on the blog that you can download Chapter 18 "Using Tablet

PCs and Ultra-Mobile PCs" at www.winsupersite.com/book

Just as a bit of trivia but Microsoft's ebook reading software's icon is a letter r with leaves to reflect saving trees.

Who cares about saving trees? Trees for paper are grown on farms anyways specifically for that task.

Now if we really wanted to make things cheaper/better for the environment, use hemp instead of paper. Can get much more paper per acre.

I have a hint for the next Windows 7 secrets: no more paper. A cd or a pdf (not for free both of course) to surf on a notebook or a desktop pc. It could be cool.

It's a pretty ironic title because...almost no one does.

>>Microsoft's ebook reading software's icon is a letter r with leaves to reflect saving trees.<<

Something else pretty much no one uses.  Mobipocket and Ereader are pretty good though.

Or a Kindle.

"Or a Kindle."

Well, yeah. All in due time, all in due time. Maybe if Amazon tanks the government can bail them out, McCain can say that's not socialism yet give everyone a free kindle. Then we won't need paper anymore.

Congrats Paul, but now I know why you posted so much Apple stuff lately, to get hits to promote the book. Dude, you are brilliant, even if you meant every word!

Gorath is right. Man is that book thick.

I'll support you Paul. I'm asking my wife to get me a copy for XMAS.  It will prepare me for when my friends call to ask questions. I learned quite a bit about XP, but I have very little Vista experience [although all of it has been good] but I can use more info. Again, congrats.

I leafed through a copy of the book at a store today, and good god, there's hardly any mention of OS X.

Is this man biased or what? ;-p    <- all forgiving winking tongue pointing smiley/emoticon/whatever of forgiveness.

Congratulations on finishing the book, Paul.

Provided it is available in the UK, I will be suggesting this title to anyone looking for a book on Vista :-)

>>Microsoft said late Wednesday that it plans to break out of its monthly patch cycle to issue a security update today for a critical vulnerability in all supported versions of Windows.

Redmond rarely releases security patches outside of Patch Tuesday, the second Tuesday of each month. The software giant isn't providing many details yet, but the few times it has departed from its Patch Tuesday cycle it has always done so to stop the bleeding on a serious security hole that criminals were using to break into Windows PCs on a large scale.<<
