It's fairly likely that this would come with the next XBox360 firmware revision. In turn, that seems fairly likely to come before Windows 7 is real (actual non-beta, non-RC, non-torrent release).

Or sooner--there is a wee consumer-oriented show coming soon somewhere in the desert.  (That show shares an attribute with the one in the city by the bay: I won't be there.)

I don't have the beta yet, but I know my PS3 is DNLA/UPnP compliant.  You might try to stream to it.  I can stream to it using WMP11 right now pretty easy (barring codec issues).

By the looks of the icon we will be able to play our music on dishwashers.

If you have other pc's running 7, just open WMP and click on the Share button. From there, you'll be able to enable "Receive media on your network", which will enable the "Play To" feature.

Sort of like iTunes and another iTunes Mac or PC, or Airport Express, or AppleTV, or controlling it all using your iPhone remote?  Yeah I get it!

Nope. Not like that. This allows you to stream to actual 3rd party hardware like actual audio equipment as well as computer hardware.

Sharing media between PCs has been around for a long time. That's not the big change.

No I dont have Zune.  I had a Zune 30 at one time, brown even.  If you look back I did not say one negative thing about it.  Stuff like that happens.  All of our iLO-2 boards in our HP servers are now 1 day ahead because of a leap year bug.  It wont be fixed until we reboot them, which for the production boxes will be at then end of the month to apply any MS patches.

Loosing your MP3 player for a day is a non-issue for most people.  The worst thing about the whole incident is that it brought negative press upon MS at time when they dont need anymore.  Timing was just incredibly bad.

I am guessing that when Paul mentioned the Mac/Apple community, he was talking about the people like robertsjoe posting immature babbles about something that they obviously had no stake in, other than an opportunity to bash MS. mikegalos and the other Apple bashers have and will pay back in kind at the first opportunity. ITs the mainstream press that really overblew this.

@Lindy - Were you or your company dogging on HP for a fix for this leap year bug for those iLO boards? Where was CNN and Fox News? I didn't see anything from them. Like you said, that proves that these things happen...and in the case of a media player, it is not that big of a deal...the iLO boards are not either...as long as you can still remotely manage your servers, wouldn't you agree?

Enough of that subject...lets see some more important and useful discussion here. How about it?

It should Play To anything that supports the industry standard DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) 1.5 digital media renderer standard. So any PC that has software that supports it should work as should any non-PC audio equipment.

Here's a comparison of Windows 7 to Windows Vista and Windows XP. Yes, the beta is not a benchmarking build, but the results are promising and I am looking forward to playing around with the beta.

This will be pretty cool. My Samsung Omnia is DLNA compliant. I'll be looking forward to messing with the beta of 7 for this reason now, as well!

Does it have to be on the same WiFi network or can you stream music from your PC to your cellphone when you're 50 miles from your house?

@sharky - I haven't messed with it too much yet, other than to stream on wifi. I'll play with it a bit later on and see if I can figure it out. If I remember right, I have to have wifi turned on, just to set the default media server, though.
