Hmm. A computer press "reporter" makes up a ludicrous date and then, when the real date is announced, writes a story about how Microsoft changed the date from the one the "reporter" made up.

Why does that bring a sense of deja vu?

Mike, I've been a lurker on this site for a while now.  Can I ask a question?  Why do you visit Pauls sites and blogs?  You obviously don't rate him much, judging by your comments - yet you keep visiting the site.  Is it just to keep adding negative comments?

Steven..I think Mike is referring to Randall C Kennedy there...

The"Randall effect" seems to be in play at IDG, yellow journalist for technology seems to be the only way they think they can get some hits.

Ooops, yes.  I re-read and I have misunderstood Mikes point on his above post.  Sorry Mike on that one.  The origional question still remains though.

I'm agreeing with Paul (and usually do)

Your comment is fairly amusing given the history of the blog comments section. If you read more, you'll find quite a few posts that refer to "Paul and Mike" when the real Paul bashers get going. In fact, a while back, somebody accused me of being a fake "sock puppet" account created by Paul so he could speak anonymously in the comments section.

How do people come up with this stuff?  I've almost lost complete confidence in ComputerWorld, especially with recent columns by Gregg Keizer and anything to do with Randall C. Kennedy.

Two years?  Mr. Keizer should get a reality check (or his facts straight), when has Microsoft EVER done this with their first service pack?

Reading the article further, he brings up the following quote:

"But Microsoft has since changed its mind, reportedly to address an unknown number of "serious" performance bugs."

What performance bugs are "serious"?  Perhaps that's why there's quotes, it's not actually serious.  I haven't notice any "serious" performance issues with Win7.

I won't be going to ComputerWorld or IDG again any time soon, unless I want a good laugh.  This is just getting ridiculous.

Q4 is inexcusable. W7 was finished by mid-July. Making us wait until potentially the end of the year for SP1?  No.

What will Windows 7 fix?  I thought the OS was perfect.

For WinXP, shipping a service pack 1.5 years later was inexcusable.  For Vista, shipping a service pack 1.5 years later was inexscusable.  Why, because those OSes had major problems out the door.

Windows 7, no major problems (that I know of) that need fixing.

And Q4 is not 1.5 years anyway.  Q4 includes October, which is one year from RTM, max of 1.25 years.  It takes time to ramp up and gather the telemetry before you can just start rolling out service packs.

I would have thought that Gregg Keizer would have learnt his lesson after the last uninformed post www.computerworld.com/.../Most_Windows_7_PCs_max_out_memory

Credibility gone right out of the window.
