Give it time, give it time.

XP wasn't an instant hit either, but the problem is bigger this time because XPSP2 is OK and Vista has to do way more than just work properly!

I love Vista on my desktop PC, but have not moved my laptop over because its not high-spec enough.

Re: Windows Vista (giving off the rong message?)

Your not gona find me in those saying bad stuff about Vista. Mine has been the best there is here for any new OS. I can do more than any XP user with my Vista. But that is me... Lots of people are not even up to using XP so far as I can tell. They still have problems with simple things on XP and could never try to figure it out on Vista. Needless to say the original idea for Vista was not to be user friendly. But user safe! With Vista a user has better choices for security. Than anything XP or some of the other OS's have to offer.

I'm staying with Vista and waiting and working for the next OS ... Windows Seven to be even better!

    Xtreem0:

What about that Chris Pirillo. He has to be the worst. He seems to be bosting the problems (so called) with vista.

    Good example http://youtube.com/watch?v=_pbRS9TXtVk

Just want to make one point regarding the software he was using. It was BETA!!! By definition that means it will be slower, as it contains debugging code, and will contain bugs. The warning to never use beta software on your main system is there for a reason. A Service Pack Beta Install Goes Wrong! Hardly what you'd call a headline is it? Come to think of it why am I even bothering to waste time on him?

On that note, I am running the SP1 RC1 at the moment, and after I uninstalled OneCare Family Safety which was causing untold numbers of Explorer crashes, it runs faster and more stable than gold :)

Isproc, off topic I have experienced the very same issues with Family Safety and Explorer...both pre and post-SP1 install. I have a support call into the OneCare Safety team, and they told me they were researching it. I hope they get this corrected...I was drawn to Family Safety because I would be able to enforce the parental controls on people who have local administrative privilages (something that cannot be done in the Vista Parental Controls).

On topic, Vista is a very good OS feature-wise...I may nto be exploiting everything, but things like Sidebar, even UAC, Built-in search, the control panel, Reliability monitor, ability to shrink partitions built in to the OS, etc. I do like it...but I am in the camp that is experiencing much buggy-ness...things like Windows Update not working out of the box, the above mentioned problems with a OneCare Product, problems with the Wi-Fi switch on my Laptop not working as it should...kinda weird, b/c I have the exact same laptop that Paul Thurrott does (the Lenovo T61). I do believe that it over time will become as good and better than XP and the bugginess with decrease (generally speaking, because I do believe there are issues out there...some don't see the issues, but there are people having problems)...whether this growing up will occurr significantly in Vista service packs or Windows 7 (like 98SE) remains to be seen...but Vista was/is a great OS and worthy successor to XP...it just needs some more maturing.

Honestly, really looking at it, any new PC can run Vista well as long as the company making it doesn't skimp out on a piece of garbage graphics card. It's amazing really though, I mean, my grandfather had a brand new HP laptop running Vista Premium and when I toyed around and ended up at the advanced setting area in the performance zone, it suggested changing the resolution for a better experience. You can't tell me they can't sell a laptop with a good enough graphics card to work what they put on the thing without the computer telling you that it should be better.

Re: Windows Vista (giving off the rong message?)

Seriously, MS needs to address all the negativity... I'm running Vista on several machines. I'm even running it on hardware (laptop) nowhere near Vista ready. It handles Office 2007 with no serious issues. Sometimes there is a lag but I've yet to see a BSOD. My only complaint is the slow network discovery. Other than that I really don't see why so many are having trouble. On my other machines it runs with no issues at all. Everyone I know who runs Vista loves it. NO issues...

I've had friends email me reports from surveys that showed that VARs were dumping Vista in droves in favor of XP. One survey in paticular reported over 65% had choosen XP rather than Vista. Turns out the survey was based on 800+ people responding. Out of 100 million units sold that is a mere statistical error.

The real problem here is that MS has not addressed these ongoing issues. I don't recall ever seeing ads for Vista. Where are the ads showing Vista working with just about every 3rd party application? Displaying that it does work and debunking all the negative press...

It just does not all add up...

How about ads showing the Reliability Monitor... clean slate with the overlay of "Where's the Pain?"

Not to ignore adverts that are blatantly false.

Lets take Apple's Get a Mac ad, where PC is on the Dont Give Up on Vista podium, saying: If your scanner doesn't work - but a new one.

Well, my ancient printer works fine, if anything, Vistas compat is BETTER than XPs.

The new Get a Mac adds are getting really harsh lately. Now one i saw that sortove broke a nerve. (because of how it went.) They stated that OSX was considerd faster then vista. Now im here asking how can you actually confirm that it is? There are so many variables to consider if you think of which is faster. Like look at the number of components for vista compaired to OSX. Apple can controle the drivers while vista cant. Thats why vista is slower to start up the osx.
