Installed Vista SP1 RTM (build 6001.18000)

Had to start with an uninstall of Vista SP1 RC. That only took 25 minutes from start to finish. I had heard stories of an hour to overnight.

Next apply Reg hack to make Vista Business see the pre-SP1 KB updates on Windows Update. Two were required and a short wait was required between them so the install bits could do there thing. Only one reboot was required. Wait another 10 minutes and run WU and SP1 was now ready to update. The file size range is 64MB to 534MB. Vista Business only required 76.4MB of new code. After clicking on a couple of confirmations SP1 was ready to install. Click "I Accept" and off it goes. There are 4 stages. One before reboot, Two after reboot but before actual system restart and one prior to login.

Stage 1 lasts around 25 minutes. Stages 2 and 3 are around 20 to 25 minutes total. Stage 4 (#3 in the actual screen info after system restart) only took 5 minutes and I was presented with the Vista login screen.

Vista SP1 was now installed. I have not noticed any real chanes yet. Don't spend that much time on the lappy.

Ultimate 64 was about 120MB, and installed fully in about 20 mins, for the record.

I haven't installed Vista SP1 yet but i will probably do it this week-end for one laptop with Vista business and a desktop with Vista Ultimate.

However, I somehow doubt that SP1 will significantly improve my disapointing experience with any version of Vista.

I overall prefer Windows Server 2008 and i think that i will use as my main development platform once it will be released.
