    Vista SP1 Performance Improvements.

I just applied both Vista machines I own the SP 1. Man, what an improvement. No more slow copy files, much more responsive feel to the OS. This is truely a well done Service Pack. I think Microsoft knocked it out of the park. I think SP 1 will squash the Vista Haters cold in their tracks. Now we'll see the mass adoption of Vista now that everything works the way it should.

I am and have been a converted Windows user to Mac, in the past 2+ years. I still however of course use Windows because of of work, applications, job requirements, and of course Games.  I use Windows in a virtual environment, and I use Boot camp frequently. SP1 was an unbelievably simple install. I have used Windows going back to 3.0 and of all major Windows installs I can think of, this was almost as simple as a Windows update, barring a little extra time of course.

So far, excellent roll up pack, performance improvements noticeable, and no software, hardware conflicts to speak of. This is the way it should be, and hey, it's  Microsoft !!!

I will try SP1 this week-end on both Vista Ultimate and business and i sincerily hope that it will improve the O.S performance on my Home PC. Otherwise i will wait for my upcoming PC upgrade(in which i will switch from Nvidia graphic card to ATI) to decide if i should or not replace Vista Ultimate by Windows 2008.

I started using Vista with RC1. I did this in a dual boot scenario with XP. I had to upgrade my video card to use Aero. Photoshop Elements 4 got an error message on load that said it was not compatible but seemed to work OK. I have a group emailing program that I would have to reinstall after each use. No complaints it was after all beta software. Then Vista was officially released and I thought for sure that all my problems would be behind me. Not the case. I still had the same issues as with RC1. Ok so nobody is perfect. At long last SP1 came along and I knew that all my issues would be addressed for sure. Sadly not the case. However I did get a new problem. Zone Alarm would not work. I had to uninstall it and switch to Windows firewall. I am typing this on my iMac that I got in February. For the few Windows programs I need I am using Parallels running XP. All my problems are now behind me and Vista sits in the corner turned off and collecting dust. I suppose I could sell it, but who wants an computer with Vista and issues. I could donate it but that would not be nice.

I installed Vista Ultimate and then SP-1 on my wife's upgraded Pavilion recently. Nothing but problems and very little performance improvement, despite the latest drivers. After trying it for a few weeks, I recently had to downgrade it back to XP.  MS screwed the pooch in this release IMHO.  I've been using Windows since 3.1,, but moved to Apple's OSX Leopard on a Mac Pro earlier this year. Its a far superior product in my experience. The only thing I use Windows for now is GIS work on XP 64-bit with a custom rig.
