  • AntiPod

There’s no new info here for Zune fans per se, but I’m linking to this for one reason only: It appeared in yesterday’s New York Times Magazine, which goes out as part of the Sunday paper as is decidedly aimed at non-technical people. My guess? This will be the first time most people had heard of the...

The Wall Street Journal : Videogame retailer GameStop plans to stop selling Microsoft's Zune media player due to insufficient demand. GameStop's already pulled its stock of Zunes from its stores. The media players will be available via GameStop's Web site until supplies are exhausted. The...

  • Amazon Gains Share of Shrinking Paid Music Market

NYT's Saul Hansell writes another great blog post , this time about Amazon's recent gains in the digital music market: NPD’s annual survey of Internet users found that 10 percent of the music they acquired last year came from paid downloads. That is a big increase from 7 percent in 2006...

  • Why the iPod can be conquered

Richard Siklos at Fortune Magazine tackles an increasingly common point of view : That Apple's dominance of the digital media market could be quite temporary, thanks to the company's arrogance, poor relations with partners, and utter disregard for customers (contrary to its carefully honed marketing...

  • SanDisk

The Los Angeles Times has an interesting story about an underappreciated and often forgotten player in the portable media player market. SanDisk is realistically the only company that's legitimately challenging Apple right now, but they're also the company Microsoft's Zune must bump aside...

  • A Zune follow-up

In my last post, I discussed some thoughts about the Zune. I was interested to see that a Bloomberg article (which is clearly written by someone unfamiliar with technology) has bolstered my thoughts about Zune market share (I had sort of roughly figured Zune's overall market share at 3.5 percent...

  • Some thoughts on Zune 2.0

So I wrote up a pretty thorough update on the new Zune devices last night but I'd like to chime in with some off-the-cuff thoughts this morning that are based solely on a single Microsoft briefing and some press packet photographs. I like what they're doing. As a reviewer, I feel like I'm...

  • Amazon MP3 store goes live

Amazon's previously announced MP3 music download service is live. Dubbed amazonmp3 , the service offers DRM-free MP3 music downloads. Nothing exceptional yet, and sort of the lame selection found on Wal-Mart's similar store. Still, a step in the right direction. Thanks Jon and Jerry.
